Let’s be real… journaling sounds like a good idea until you actually sit down to do it.
You open your journal, stare at the page, and suddenly your mind goes blank.
Or honestly… it’s not blank at all. It’s just a lot. Too many thoughts, too many directions, and you don’t even know where to start.
You’re sitting there like… what am I even supposed to write?
If that’s you, you’re not doing it wrong.
You just don’t have a system yet.
So let me show you something simple that actually works and doesn’t take your whole morning.
Why journaling feels so hard
A lot of us think journaling is supposed to look like:
long, deep entries
having something meaningful to say every day
being super consistent right away
And that’s just… not real life.
It feels hard because you’re:
overthinking what to write
staring at a blank page with no direction
trying to do way too much
The goal isn’t to write something perfect.
You just need to get clear.
A simple 5-minute routine
If you’ve been stuck, start here:
Minute 1: Brain dump
Just write. Everything on your mind. No structure, no pressure.
Minute 2: What actually matters today?
Out of everything you just wrote, pick 1 or 2 things that matter.
Minute 3: Your top 3
Write your top 3 tasks for the day.
Not your whole list. Just 3.
Minute 4: Check in with yourself
How do you feel today?
Not how you should feel. How you actually feel.
Minute 5: One thought to carry with you
Just one sentence.
Something like:
I don’t have to do everything today
I can take this one step at a time
Clarity creates momentum
What starts to change
When you keep doing this, things start to feel different.
Your mind feels less crowded.
Your days feel a little more structured.
You’re moving with more intention.
Things just feel clearer.
And that makes everything else easier.
If consistency has been hard for you
If you’ve tried journaling before and couldn’t stick with it, it’s usually not a discipline issue.
It’s just that what you were trying didn’t fit your life.
That’s why I put together a simple 5-day journaling routine to help you get started without overthinking it.
It’s quick, it’s guided, and it helps you stay consistent.
